Dec. 16, 2009
It was an exciting year for Janet Parker and, as a sponsorship partner of Janet Parker Fishing, Aaron's is very happy to have been a part of it.
In April 2009, Parker had a huge win at the Women's Bassmaster Tour (WBT) Tournament at Ouachita River in Monroe, LA. Leading the event from wire-to-wire, she widened the gap each day of the three-day tournament and had her best day last to easily wrap up the win. It was the first WBT title for Parker who's been competing in the women's circuit since its inception in 2005.
"When I realized I had a lead, I thought maybe I could win," said Parker. "I didn't get overconfident because you just don't know. I didn't count my chickens before they hatched."
But Parker's confidence was not without merit. She would go on to score several top finishes including a second-place at the Rockets and Roses Tournament, a fifth-place at the Northern Wholesale Fishing Tournament and a seventh-place at the WBT Tournament at Little Rock, Ark.
Her many achievements would lead to exposure for her and Aaron's in Field and Stream Radio, ESPN.com, Bass Times Magazine, Bass Master Magazine, and more.
In addition to her accomplishments in tournament competition, Parker represented Aaron's in many special events. In May, she was a celebrity guest at the St. Judes Bass Classic, which raised over $117,000. She also donated a guided fishing trip on Lake Fork in the Aaron's Dream Machine boat to help raise money for the Marine Military Academy in Harlington, TX. On Mille Lacs Lake, Onamia, Minn. in June, Parker guided NFL coaches fishing for bass in the "NFL Coaches Fellowship, Friendship and Fishing Retreat." Among the coaches in attendance were retired Colts coach Tony Dungy and Redskins coach Jim Zorn.
Even with her successful tournament schedule and her work in the many fundraising events, Parker still found time to make store appearances for Aaron's, participate in the Manager's Meeting in Washington, D.C. and interact with the fans at several NASCAR events including Talladega, Texas, Bristol and Daytona. At Daytona in February, Parker joined NASCAR driver Regan Smith for the "Daytona Hot Rods and Reels" Charity Tournament on Lake Lloyd in the infield at Daytona International Speedway. In Texas, she took part in the "Aaron's Fish and Fun at the Races" event that benefitted Speedway Children's Charities. Media coverage for the event included FOX, SPEED, CMT and ESPN. Parker herself was interviewed by KDAF TV channel 33 and the Texas Fishing and Outdoors radio show.
